Clean & Green Singapore, a yearly flagship campaign by NEA, aims to inspire Singaporeans to care for and protect our living environment by adopting an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. Throughout the year, various environmental events and initiatives will be held, culminating in the launch and showcase in October / November each year.

The Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme is a strategic initiative that utilises the opportunity provided by the conversion of two-thirds of Singapore into local catchment areas. Launched by PUB in 2006, it aims to improve the quality of water and life by beautifying our waterways, creating postcard-pretty community spaces for all.

World Water Day is an annual, global initiative by the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of preserving water resources. 22 March has been designated by the UN as World Water Day. Singapore joins the global community in commemorating World Water Day, by offering our 3P partners the opportunity to organise events at waterways and reservoirs.Such events bring people closer to the water, thus instilling in them a sense of ownership of our waters and their surrounding community spaces.

The annual Youth for the Environment Day is a key platform in which young Singaporeans can champion environmental ownership and conservation. Held in tandem with Earth Day on 22 April, young Singaporeans are encouraged to demonstrate simple, practicable and effective ways to safeguard, nurture and cherish our environment. Through this, we hope to underscore the key roles our youth play in ensuring the development of a more environmentally-conscious and socially responsible society.

Keeping your school and community litter-free is no small task if you are a Litter-Free School Ambassador! Under this programme, students will assist teachers in conducting Litter-Free activities in school and emphasise the importance of keeping our environment litter-free.

An online song-writing competition organised by the NEA (National Environment Agency), finalists are placed in a special mentorship programme with veteran musicians for a finale concert where the winning song is selected to be the official Clean & Green Singapore song. A nation-wide initiative by NEA, the Corporate and School Partnership Programme arranges and facilitates partnerships between corporations and schools to groom environmentally-minded and proactive Singaporeans. This is done through encouraging corporations to mentor students, allowing them to demonstrate their corporate social responsibility and technical expertise while students are given a chance to find creative solutions to environmental issues, work on existing environmental programmes, and be instilled with a sense of responsibility and ownership in protecting the environment.

PUB’s Our Waters Programme encourages companies to partner with schools, NGOs and/or other interest groups to become guardians of our waterways. Activities include conducting clean-up activities, providing resources (in cash or in kind) and proposing innovative plans for the development and commercial use of these reservoirs and waterways.

The highest accolade in Singapore’s Environment and Water Resources field, the President’s Award for the Environment recognises and honours individuals, organisations and companies for significant contributions towards Singapore’s efforts to achieve environmental sustainability. This award serves to demonstrate the Government’s support and appreciation for the efforts of the 3P (People, Public and Private) sectors to achieve a sustainable environment. The award also aims to cultivate and promote the critical importance of conserving environmental resources among Singaporeans.

The EcoFriend Awards given out by NEA recognises the selfless contribution of individuals in caring for the environment and seeks to inspire and encourage them, and others, to persevere and enlarge the scope of their efforts. It is given out on an annual basis, and takes into account the efforts of the individual in the past two to five years.

As the EcoFriend Awards is to the environment, the Watermark Awards given out by PUB recognises individuals and organisations for outstanding efforts towards water sustainability. It also seeks to inspire and encourage others to continue protecting and raising awareness of our water resources.

Held annually since 2007, the Clean & Green Singapore Awards are given out in tandem with the Clean & Green Singapore campaign. The Awards recognise grassroots organisations for their efforts to achieve environmental goals in two areas, “Public Hygiene and Cleanliness” and “Energy Efficiency and Resource Conservation”.
