Ladies and Gentlemen

Today’s dialogue has not only allowed us to understand, from different perspectives, the water security issues in our region but also provided authentic and useful insights into the innovative solutions and policies adopted by other countries .

Thanks in part to the important work of the Asia-Pacific Water Forum, there is already growing attention amongst leaders towards addressing the water challenges in the region.

Moving ahead, it is imperative that we sustain the momentum of the “Ministers for Water Security” initiative and take concrete steps to improve water security in our region.  

Later this evening, the third Singapore International Water Week will open its doors and I would like to invite all of you to participate in the various events in the week ahead.

The Singapore International Water Week promises opportunities for its participants to leverage on the competencies of international businesses, technology experts and academics and policy makers.

This meeting of the global water community also serves to catalyse the establishment of regional cooperation, partnerships and business deals to address water challenges.

Another highlight of the week is the Water Leaders Summit, where top academics, business leaders, and governments come together to discuss issues on governance of water systems, financing of infrastructure and innovative technology.

These will build upon the key elements of our discussion today and deepen our appreciation of the issues.

I am confident that we will benefit from the opportunities and exchanges in the week ahead.
