Encourage early adoption of technologies

EWI will seek to encourage early adoption of new and innovative technologies by the private sector by encouraging demonstration or pilot plant studies.

The TechPioneer scheme aims to accelerate the commercialization of new environment and water technologies through early adoption of such technologies in Singapore, and promote environmental sustainability at the same time. The scheme brings together both technology developers and users - incentivising users to adopt new technologies and helping the technology developers to establish a successful case reference in Singapore for their new technologies. This will help technology developers build a track record for their technologies and facilitate their entry into the market. TechPioneer provides funding of up to $2 million or 30% of total qualifying costs (whichever is lower) for a technology user to introduce new environment and water technologies in their existing operational processes.

This Singaporean water company, specialising in filtration technologies, successfully developed and commercialized the 16-inch reverse osmosis (RO) membrane system in Singapore. The membranes take up 25 per cent less space and save up to 15 per cent of the annual RO operating costs, as compared with the current 8-inch system. PUB will be the first utility company in the world to employ these 16-inch RO membranes for water reclamation.
