What do our officers think about life in MEWR?
 |
Roxanne
Executive (Clean Air), Environmental Policy Division (EPD) |
“In EPD, our work deals with a diverse and intensive range of environmental issues and challenges. These goes down to safeguarding issues close to the heart, like the air we breathe, and we carry these thoughts into our work and when coming up with policies and initiatives.
It has been a rewarding experience to work in the environment family and with colleagues with a strong urge to conserve and protect the environment.” |
 |
Jauhari
Executive (Energy Resources), Energy and Climate Policy Division (ECPD)
|
“Before I was posted to MEWR, I was working in our statutory board PUB. The opportunity of working seamlessly across policy-based MEWR and operations-based PUB gave me an informed view of our stakeholders’ needs, so that we can make better policy decisions.
Through working in the MEWR family, I learned that nothing is ever as straight-forward as it seems – which makes it a little more exciting and challenging! |

Shiying
Assistant Director (Performance), Water Policy Division (WPD) and
Environmental Behavioural Sciences & Economics Research Unit (EBERU)
|
“What motivates me is the sense of fulfilment in designing policies that contribute to a meaningful purpose, and that we play a part in enhancing the environment we live in. Public policy work is actually team-based; while we take ownership of specific areas, we all work together towards a common goal.
I also hold a dual appointment in the newly-formed EBERU where we hope to drive greater economics thinking in the environmental space and apply behavioural science knowledge to nudge people towards the right social behaviour. I am thankful for these opportunities to work in transdisciplinary teams that allowed me to consider issues from multiple perspectives.” |

Miak
Senior Executive (International Relations), International Policy Division (IPD)
|
“What’s the best part of my job? Well, it is thrilling to be involved in environmental negotiations and multi-faceted inter-agency work, to help promote Singapore’s interests and enhance our relations on the environment and water front with other countries.
I feel there is plenty of room to grow in this job. In the course of our work, we develop skill and tact in interacting with our foreign counterparts, as well as acquire knowledge that goes beyond domestic environmental matters. The job is also fun as we usually stumble upon interesting current affairs tidbits. While hours may be long, our team would often have pizza suppers late into the night together!” |

Isabel
Senior Executive (Marketing Communications), 3P Network Division (3PND)
|
“I believe that we all should enjoy the work we do, so work wouldn’t have to be work at all. For me, it’s inspiring when I meet our key partners – people with a passion for saving the environment – at the events we organise regularly. Also, I’m really excited to embark on creative social media campaigns to drum up interest in going green – and here is where I shamelessly plug our MEWR Facebook page (do check it out and give us a “like”)! |

Hing Yong
Assistant Director, Futures and Readiness Division (FRD)
|
“In FRD, we actively scan the horizon for emerging trends and issues. It’s exciting when we come across new creative ways that will impact the domains of environment and water resources, be it unorthodox sources of green technology or potential human-motion powered offices, which could become foundations to formulating new strategies and policies.
Also we’ve an ‘open-door’ culture where we gather in informal huddles. This definitely helps to stimulate the creative brain juices, compared to formal discussions in meeting rooms.” |
 |
Vincent
Assistant Director (Finance), Corporate Development Division (CDD)
|
“On my first day in MEWR, I was warmly welcomed by the HR team and participated in an all-rounded induction that gave me valuable insights into what the Ministry does.
Here I realized that there’s a lot of engagement across different levels. Besides working closely with divisions and our statutory boards on new project funding, I also experienced fun staff events such as Vertical Challenge competition, informal lunch sharing sessions and many more.” |
